Early Sept color
I live in Southeastern Wisconsin and we have on average, about 20 perfect days a year.
The bulk of them fall in Septmember.
By perfect I mean chilly morning quickly warming up to an ideal 78 degrees. The colors are crisp with a deep blue, cloudless sky. The air is heavy- scented with ripening fields, decaying grasses and woodsmoke.
This month we have had 15 such days in a row.
This morning I decided to enjoy it from the seat of my Trek. I live close to the Glacial Drumlin Trail, which cuts across Southeastern Wisconsin from Milwaukee to Madison. Please enjoy my pictures from this perfect morning. And if you have the chance get out there and enjoy this trail yourself.
Ripening corn in Summit Wisconsin
Our corn fields in Wisconsin are diminuitive compared to those in Iowa and Illinois. They are however still amazingly beautiful. I love chronicling the growth cycle of these fields. The colors range from pale nubile green in the spring to this collage of golden green in the fall.
Biking Wisconsin
I am really an amatuer photographer but I am diligently trying to expand my picture ideas. This is really the first time I remembered to bring the camera on a bike ride. I stopped several times for some great shots but I promise I got a good workout in between photo opps. I visited a beautiful photographer’s website and she had many self-portraits so I thought I would give that a try. A little cheesy I know, but good for photojournaling. The down side was, in setting up the timer, I was left vulnerable to the resident mosquitos.

As you can see this trail winds through a variety of terrains. Our woods are typically maples, elms and birches. With a few oaks and of course our ubiquitous evergreens.

I have threatened to make a study of the barns in Wisconsin for years. This one looked like a great place to start.
Wetlands
Dousman Depot
This pretty little park is in the village of Dousman. It is about 35 miles west of Milwaukee and 12 miles west of Wales on the trail. From this point on the trail was unpaved. I have always turned around at this point because I have a road bike not well suited for off-road. But this late in the season the gravel was hard-packed and a beautiful ride. It was a day that makes you want to ride until you run out of road!! I made it to Jefferson and knew that I had to save enough leg to get back to my car. So regrettably I did have to turn around.
Bridge repair
All of the bridges west of Dousman looked like this. It appears that this portion of the trail is shared with snowmobiles in the winter. This is a wonderful trail and the maintenance doesn’t happen without a cost. Today I decided I would find a way to make a donation that would hopefully help.
